Health Issues

Achieving a healthy weight is a fantastic goal. Being overweight puts you at increased risk of serious health problems such as high blood pressure, health disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and some kinds of cancer. So if you are carrying too much weight, trying to lose some of it will always be beneficial.

Be safe and healthy

There are so many diets out there that it can be hard to choose the right plan. Some promise quick results, while others work more gradually. No matter how you choose to lose your weigh, it is important that you go about it in a healthy way. A fast diet makes huge demands on your body and you will need to make sure that you can cope with these. You will need to be active as well as restricting what you eat, so if you have any medical conditions that keep you from doing exercise, you might struggle to lose as much as you want.

It is important to eat a balanced diet so that you can get all the nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to work properly. When choosing a diet plan, make sure to choose one that gives you a good range of different nutrients.[/panel]

The first thing to do if you are considering a fast diet is to talk to your doctor. He or she will make sure that you are physically ready to cope with it. Your doctor will probably also have useful advice on the best way to lose weight and can help you to set a realistic goal weight.

However, there are some people who should not tackle a fast diet, no matter how healthy they feel. If you fall into any of these categories, talk to your doctor or a nutritionist about a different way to lose weight:

  • If you are a child or teenager
  • If you are pregnant, trying to become pregnant or breastfeeding
  • If you have a history of eating disorders

Set a time frame

You are not meant to stick to a fast diet for a long period of time, and it is unsafe to do so. If your doctor gives you the go-ahead, give yourself a strict time frame for being on your fast diet.

Exercise is a key part of any weight-loss plan, but if you are trying a fast diet you may find that your energy levels are lower than normal, making exercise harder. Talk to a personal trainer about a fitness regime during your fast diet. He or she can offer advice on types of activity suited to a reduced calorie intake, as well as suggesting exercises to target the parts of your body that you would like to improve.

[panel style=”panel-primary” title=”Using laxatives” footer=””]Some fast diets suggest using laxatives or saltwater flushes. These can produce dramatic results for some people, but they are not safe. They can increase your risk of dehydration and keep your body from property absorbing the nutrients and fats that it needs. If you find a diet based on these techniques, steer clear.[/panel]
